Shannon Aylesworth, Founder and CEO of Ursamin, understands the challenges of navigating a complex healthcare system firsthand. Witnessing her mother’s struggle with multiple chronic illnesses and fragmented care across specialists sparked a fire within her. The frustration of missed communication and conflicting care plans ultimately led to a tragic loss. This experience and the ongoing challenges she faces caring for her father today keep her commitment to transforming the healthcare experience for patients and families everywhere.
Witnessing the Maze
Shannon Aylesworth’s family faced a daunting challenge navigating the complexities of the healthcare system. Her mother’s care involved a large team of specialists, with fragmented information and limited communication. This lack of coordination became a significant barrier to her mother’s well-being. Shannon searched for a platform that could bridge the gap between patients, caregivers, and providers, fostering a more streamlined and collaborative experience. Unfortunately, no such platform existed.
Building a Bridge
Shannon’s story, unfortunately, is far from unique. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), over 66 million Americans have multiple chronic conditions (MCC). MCC patients often experience the worst health outcomes, including higher mortality and suicide rates. Determined to create change, Shannon leveraged her 25+ years of experience in customer acquisition and product fit and identified the healthcare gap for chronic illness patients. Ursamin was born from this realization: to build the very solution that was desperately needed, not just for Shannon’s mother, but for countless others facing the complexities of a fragmented healthcare system.
